Emergency food supplies are an essential item for every family’s preparedness kit. With a 25-year shelf life, freeze-dried meals are perfect to have on hand for at-home emergencies like power loss or natural disasters but are also a great option for camping or hunting trips. As long as you have the ability to boil water you can enjoy these easy-to-store meals.

I was recently given the opportunity to try out Prepared Bee’s ReadyWise Emergency Food Supply. The collection I got was the “Entree Meals”. Prepared Bee has a really nice selection of other ReadyWise food supplies – everything from veggies, fruits, meats, and even an organic option.

I was really impressed by the sturdy bucket. The freeze-dried meals will definitely stay dry and protected for long-term storage. I love that the buckets are square for easy stacking and storage. When I opened the bucket I was a little worried because there were no directions on the individual packages. After digging through the bucket a little bit I found there was a helpful instruction packet. It would be nice if each packet had a label. If you plan on packing these separately into individual backpacks or bags I would recommend printing the simple instructions on adhesive labels to add to each packet.

Each packet is a family-sized main entree meal, containing 4 servings each. Our bucket has 120 total servings with over a dozen different entree choices. Entrees included were Teriyaki Rice, Pasta Alfredo, Chili Mac, Cheesy Lasagne, Tomato Basil Soup with Pasta, Southwest Rice & Beans, Savory Stroganoff, Baked Potato Casserole, Hearty Tortilla Soup, Potato Pot Pie, Creamy Pasta, Chicken Noodle Soup, and Cheesy Macaroni.

But how do they taste?

In a true emergency survival situation, taste might not be super high on your priority list but having a warm and delicious meal can be a source of nourishment, energy, AND comfort.

We decided to try out the Teriyaki Rice meal to check on the quality and ease of cooking.

Preparing the meals could not have been easier. You simply have to boil some water. This makes it easy to prepare on your stovetop but also on a woodstove or campfire if you don’t have access to your stove. I was a little skeptical that this tiny packet would be a main entree for 4 people. We were cooking for three adults tonight and we were all pretty hungry so we each had a little more than a single serving. I was pleasantly surprised by just how much was made once it was reconstituted! Splitting the meal kit three ways we all had a very full plate, it was filling and tasty! We didn’t add any seasoning or anything, it was good as is.

All in all, I think the ReadyWise Food Supply is a great deal and a really easy way to add shelf stable emergency rations to your emergency kit. I would highly recommend you check out all of Prepared Bee’s emergency food supply options. While browsing their site, be sure to check out all of their other emergency supplies to keep your family prepared in any situation!
