  1. Thank you for this post! We have a couple of heavy/large breeds which have to have saddles on due to some pecking issues so this has been great to find out how I can help them through the summer.

I love the frozen water bottle idea!

Utah summers can get over 100F for some period of time so we build our coop to be under the shade of a tree to help keep them cool but I will definitely be hosing things down before I have for work!

  2. I am in Texas and the temps. Go over 100* in the summer, so I bought a small air conditioner and will run it when the temperature is too hot. They will be able to come and go through their chicken door. When they are foraging and cool down, then back out for a while longer . Also, We installed two windows across from each other for a cross breeze when it is cooler . Fans will help too !

  3. Thank you for the information. We were given two swamp coolers and it has really helped with keeping our chickens cool in the 102 weather.

    1. A swamp cooler is a device that cools the air by evaporating the water in the air, it can work well in places with high humidity

  4. Wow! I’m in west Florida and never heard of a swamp cooler! Great to know. The frozen water bottle idea is perfect! I just put some in the freezer. And my girls love cold watermelon! Have to keep them happy. There eggs are a blessing. I got great advise today. Thanks!
